Description
Moses stands on the rocky heights of Sinai holding the tablets of the covenant while the Israelites gather below in forbidden worship before the golden calf. Torches rise around the idol, hands are lifted toward the shining calf on its stone altar, and storm clouds gather over the wilderness mountains, underscoring the gravity of Israel’s rebellion. The scene portrays the crisis of Exodus 32, when the people turned from the Lord who delivered them and fashioned a visible god from their own treasure. The contrast between Moses with the law and the crowd before the idol presents a solemn visual exegesis of covenant faithfulness versus idolatry: God’s holiness cannot be replaced by human-made images, and worship becomes destructive when it is detached from obedience. Useful for sermons, Bible study materials, teaching on the Ten Commandments, idolatry, repentance, and the wilderness journey of Israel.
