Smashing the Law

Description
Stone tablets inscribed “The Law of God” lie under a forceful hammer and chisel as the engraved Ten Commandments are being fractured. The blow falls across the commandments themselves, turning the Decalogue into a visual sermon on rebellion, transgression, and the human desire to reshape divine authority.
The subject draws from the biblical giving of the Law in Exodus 20 and Deuteronomy 5, where God’s covenant commands reveal His holiness and call His people to exclusive worship, reverence, Sabbath rest, truth, purity, and love of neighbor. The broken stone also echoes the theological warning that God’s Law cannot be treated selectively; to violate the command is to stand accountable before the Lawgiver. This artwork serves well for sermons, Bible studies, discipleship materials, repentance themes, and teaching on sin, obedience, covenant, and grace.
