Description
The bronze altar of burnt offering is shown as a square, hollow altar with raised horns on its four corners, a metal grating set within the top, side rings, and long carrying poles fitted for transport. This sacred furnishing belongs to the outer court of the Tabernacle, where Israel brought sacrifices before the Lord according to the pattern given to Moses on the mountain. Its horns signified consecrated strength and atonement, while the bronze construction and grating served the continual work of burnt offerings. In biblical worship, this altar stood at the entrance of approach, teaching that fellowship with God required sacrifice, cleansing, and obedience before entering deeper into the holy place.
