The Servant

Jesus kneels in humble service, pouring water from a clay pitcher over a disciple’s foot held gently above a basin. The close view centers on the hands, water, and foot, drawing attention to the intimate act rather than the faces of those present. This is the foot washing at the Last Supper, when Christ laid aside status and taught His disciples that true greatness in the kingdom is expressed through loving service. In John 13, the Lord and Teacher takes the servant’s place, cleansing dusty feet and commanding His followers to do likewise. The image is well suited for sermons, Bible studies, communion themes, Maundy Thursday, discipleship teaching, and ministry resources on humility, servanthood, and Christlike love.
